For the last 21 years I’ve dealt with a lot of data, including web analytics, customer data, multivariate analysis, cluster cluster modeling, and more. Also, I’ve developed software and web site functionality that leverages data to drive revenue, cut costs, and create great customer experiences. Perhaps you and I have seen the rapid advancement of the promise of “big data”….the crossing of getting more AND doing more with data.
While all this is going on there’s another major trend, and that’s the massive growth of media files. For example, iTunes alone doubles every 25 months. This includes the explosive proliferation of user generated, entertainment video, call files, sound files, music, and more. Today these files are seen as viewable and listenable. But not so much seen as searchable, analyzable, or operational. Where’s the data and meta data so these lonely media files can play in the big data playground?
That data is here now, with Clarify.
I’m excited to join the board of Clarify, a company on the precipice of a huge movement in bringing the data from media files to the world of search, application, analytics and more. Domestically, this market will grow from over $200MM to $600MM in the next five years.
Let’s fast forward years from now… Every element in every media file you own (form your music, movies, home videos, recorded calls, and more) will be discoverable, searchable, analyzable, and integrated with applications you use every day. This will be true for individuals and for corporations.
What does this mean?
- It means that you will discover and be able to find fragments in a call or movie that matter to you.
- Or that you will be presented with new recommendations of what to listen to or watch based on the ‘fingerprint’ of what you like.
- Or that call centers will understand (with statistical significance) what makes a call achieve the heights of customer satisfaction.
- Or that with a keystroke you can find a key moment from any video library, online or on your hard drive.
- Or that we can integrate inside media searches into any web site.
What could you invent? The possibilities are endless. The Clarify platform is about to unlock the creativity of developers worldwide who want media files to have a big data seat at the table.
